Remedial Massage refers to the use of manual techniques to address the soft tissues of the body in order to promote healing, decrease pain and improve function. Common benefits of massage are increased circulation and decreased muscle tone. Remedial massage addresses specific body areas as indicated by the client’s presenting complaint to balance muscle tension around the joints promoting improved biomechanics and posture. Specific techniques can be used to reduce pain, increase flexibility and muscle length, decrease tissue adhesions, and reduce swelling. Stretching and strengthening exercises are often recommended to support the work done in treatment, as well as bringing awareness to habits which may be contributing to the problem in order to empower the client to continue supporting their healing between treatments.
